2/1/16 Crazy Hair Day - $1 donation - Proceeds benefit Ronald McDonald House
Book sales benefit Ronald McDonald House
2/1 thru 2/29 Pop tabs - Ronald McDonald House
-Collected by SS teacher for each team
-Full jug = Pop & Popcorn party for team

2/2 thru 2/19 Pennies for Patients - Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
-Homeroom per grade level to collect most money wins pizza and ice cream party
-Homeroom that collects most money overall will have their teacher “arrested” and “put in jail” for one day, giving students a day off!
-School goal is $2016

2/22 thru 2/26 Random Acts of Kindness Week
-Monday - Staff Appreciation Day - nice notes to staff
-Tuesday - Anti-Bullying Day - sign petition & paint pinky nail blue (pinky promise not to bully)
-Wednesday - Kind Words Stick Day - kind notes to peers on sticky notes
-Thursday - Tasty Thursday - bring treats to share with others
-Friday - Say it Forward Day - use social media for GOOD - positive messages to one another

Guest Speaker Sarah Curry Rathel

Sarah Curry Rathel came to GMS to inform our students about the work she does with the Ronald McDonald House. She also shared with us a book she wrote that benefits RMH and local families battling severe illnesses. You can find out more about Sarah, her work and her book at SomethingDifferentBooks.com. Hoops for Heart

GMS participated Hoops for Heart which is a national educational fund-raising program that is sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. During the week, students donated .50 to go to the gym to exercise their hearts and bodies and to help raise awareness in place of their encore class.

Social Extravaganza

GMS National Junior Honor Society and Student Council teamed up to sponsor Goshen Middle School's first after school social extravaganza. Students purchased tickets to stay after school to enjoy many activities throughout the building which included: music, dancing, hanging out, Wii, board games, PS4, card games, Minute to Win It, a scavenger hunt and refreshments.

Spelling Bee Winner Ben Bross

A school-wide Spelling Bee was held and 8th grader Ben Bross was the building winner. Ben will move on to represent GMS at the next level.

GMS Helping Those in Need

Every year Goshen Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), along with advisor Paul Dean, orchestrates a successful canned food drive with the help of the Goshen Middle School student body. The food collected was donated to Goshen United Methodist Church for their food pantry. The students and staff collected over 5,700 canned and nonperishable food items in a two week period! This more then doubled the total the school donated last year. It is truly impressive what our students were able to accomplish for those who need help. Well done GMS!

GMS Students Compete in Art Contest

Ellie Bross, Mariyah Davis, and Nikki Dashley were nominated for the annual Lions Club Poster contest. The local judging took place in October and resulted in the advancement of Ellie Bross’ work to the district-level competition. Cash prizes were awarded to the finalists in the competition. Goshen Middle School is proud of all the work the students did in the competition. Good Luck to Ellie as her poster progresses through to the next round.

Veterans Remembered

Our students and staff honored Veterans this past month in a wall they designed and created. Individuals brought in pictures of relatives who have served in the armed forces and some information on when and where they served. Goshen Middle School is so thankful for all those who have served protecting our freedoms.
